Herbal tea is a
very popular hot beverage in today's society. But interestingly, it is
not a true type of tea at all. Herbal tea is usually a concoction or
mixture of herbs, flowers, and spices that make up the particular
desired flavor. True gourmet teas are made up of leaves and buds from
the same type of tea plant and then processed to the point where it is
defined as a certain type or variety of tea.
When it comes to preparing herbal tea for drinking make sure that the
water is brought to a full boil first, which is around 212 degrees.
Then steep the herbal tea for about seven minutes afterward. Darker
types of herbal tea should be prepared at a one teaspoon per cup ratio,
and lighter varieties should be made up of a two teaspoon per cup ratio
instead.
It's best to use 100% spring water for making herbal teas, as most tap
waters tend to be very poor and will often result in making a high
quality and flavorful tea taste very ordinary and even bitter at times.
